Mariposa School for Children With Autism

The Mariposa School strives to be a regional leader in providing education and therapeutic services to children with autism and other developmental disabilities. Our goal is to build positive relationships among families, staff, and the greater community to help each child achieve his/her potential.

Because each child is unique, every learner's program is tailored to their individual skill set and needs. We base our teaching techniques on what research studies have shown to be most effective. Low staff to learner ratios allow for the most individualized and targeted teaching approaches based on daily objective data collection. The clinical team of professionals works together to monitor each learner's progress on a daily basis and modify teaching strategies as needed.

ABA Therapy - Individualized Instruction
We use a variety of ABA related assessment tools in order to develop treatment plans specific to a learner's specific skill set. The Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment Placement Program (VB-MAPP) and Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS-R) are excellent curriculum guides developed specifically for children with autism and other developmental disabilities. These two assessments are primarily used to determine the learner's strengths and weaknesses in skill areas related to communication, social interaction, and play. The Vineland-II is also used to assess the learner's adaptive behavior across the domains of communication, daily living skills, socialization, and motor skills. The Vineland-II provides us with a composite score which allows us to track improvement across these domains over the course of treatment. All assessments are completed upon enrollment and are updated monthly based on the student’s progress in the treatment plan. All treatment plans are thoroughly reviewed and updated with the parents on a regular basis for progress monitoring and continued success.

Tuition-Based Individualized Instruction Individualized instruction targets a variety of skills from essential functional communication to academic targets designed to transition learners to a less restrictive environment. Teaching occurs in a variety of settings including intensive and natural environments and every education plan is individualized to meet the learners strengths and needs. Our school program focuses on teaching the skills that the individual child needs.

For students with active IEPs, the NCSEAA provides several grants for families seeking alternative education opportunities from the public school system. The Mariposa School is recognized as an eligible service provider, and families awarded the funds may apply them directly towards tuition.
