All Aboard, Holly Springs

Get ready to track some fun in honor of the railroad that used to travel through downtown Holly Springs! The Cultural Center theater floor is being transformed into a bustling train station featuring two giant model train sets curated by three local train clubs: Atlantic Coast S Gaugers, Neuse River Valley Train Club, and North Raleigh Model Railroad Club.

Head to the lobby for train-themed crafts, plus interactive activities and safety tips from NCDOT’s Be Rail Safe team and Operation Lifesaver. Holly Springs train enthusiast Rob Rousseau will give a 2 p.m. presentation about the history of the train line on the theater stage.

Double the fun from 8 a.m.-noon as All Aboard coincides with Sproutfest at the Farmers Market! Bring the family for tons of children’s activities, a “Touch-a-Truck” experience featuring Fire and Police vehicles, and games.

A new historical marker honoring the Cape Fear & Northern Railroad which rolled through Holly Springs in the early 1900s was recently unveiled. The historical marker is located near the location of the original depot, near the intersection of Avent Ferry Road and Ballentine Street.
