Fireflies Over the Prairie Ridge Ecostation

  • When: Thursday, June 12, 2025,  8:00 pm -  9:30 pm
  • Location: 1671 Gold Star Dr., Raleigh, NC 27607
  • Cost: $3 for Friends of the Museum members and $5 for non-members per participant

This in person program for ages 8+ requires pre-registration and has a fee.

Want to see fireflies sparkling over the grasses at Prairie Ridge? Join us for an evening of fireflies! You’ll learn about how and why fireflies light up and how you can help scientists learn more about fireflies in North Carolina and beyond. Then we’ll watch the fireflies as they light up over the prairie.

Your registration fee covers the cost of a magnifier bug box that you may use to observe fireflies up close during the program and take home at the end of the program. All children must be accompanied by a registered adult and will be conducted entirely outdoors.

Come dressed for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes. Bring a filled water bottle and flashlight as it will be dark on your walk back to your car at the end of the program. Meet your leaders in the Outdoor Classroom, a short 3-5 minute walk down the gravel path from the parking lot.
