Prairies of the Piedmont at Prairie Ridge Ecostation

  • When: Saturday, June 13, 2026, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • Location: 1671 Gold Star Dr., Raleigh, NC 27607

Prairie ecosystems once covered large regions of the Piedmont but now remain only in small pockets of the state. What are piedmont prairies, what happened to them, and why are we working to tend one here today? Join us at Prairie Ridge for this program for ages 8+ to learn about the plants, history, and ecology of piedmont prairies, and explore the active prairie here at the Ecostation. As we go, we will document the wildlife and plants we find and contribute to ongoing collaborative science efforts to understand and monitor the biodiversity of the Piedmont.

Register on the website.

Come dressed for the weather and prepared for a half-mile walk.

Though Prairie Ridge Ecostation is temporarily closed due to construction, they are still offering programs such as this event.
