This informative and entertaining spring walking tour is perfect for the entire family! And it's a great thing to do with Mom on or around Mother's Day weekend!
The historic Oakwood neighborhood is the oldest neighborhood in Raleigh at least partially outside of the downtown. On this tour, you will learn how much of the Oakwood neighborhood was almost destroyed in the 1970s.
We will also discuss the main architectural styles in Oakwood and the stories of the people who built these gorgeous historic homes. In addition, you will see Oakwood's "modern house," which created such a stir in the neighborhood in 2013-14 that the story was reported nationwide.
Other interesting stops include Pullentown, a tiny sub-neighborhood within Oakwood, and a home where a made-for-TV movie was filmed that starred a very famous classic actor and actress.
PLEASE NOTE: This walking tour lasts approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, but may be slightly shorter depending on the size and speed of the grouup. We will NOT be entering any of the homes on the tour; we will be viewing the exteriors only. In addition, there will not be any restroom breaks or stops for food/drinks.
I run two separate tours of Oakwood, one in the spring and one in the fall. If you have been on the fall tour, then this tour will be new to you!
Event recurs: April 26, May 3, 10 & 26, 2025
