Several local churches and community organizations are coming together to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during a free, public celebration on Thursday, Jan. 22. Area residents are invited to attend the observance at 6:30 p.m. at Friendship Chapel Baptist Church.
Each year the Wake Forest MLK Committee plans the activities in our community to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As part of this celebration, students in the Wake Forest and Rolesville Schools and Wake Forest community are provided an opportunity and encouraged to participate in contests for creative writing, art projects, and creative performance based on the current year’s theme. The contest winners in each category will receive a monetary prize for their entry. In addition, high school seniors have the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship (a minimum of three and maximum of five are offered). Contest Entry Form and Rules are on the website.
The Wake Forest MLK Committee is appealing to the citizens of the Wake Forest community for financial support to fund these monetary prizes and scholarships in support for our future leaders. Donations are accepted via website.
