Forest Families - Nature & Child Development Class

  • When: Tuesday, December 10, 2024, 10:15 am - 12:15 pm
  • Location: Umstead State Park, 2100 North Harrison Ave., Cary, NC
  • Cost: $15 per family

Come spend two hours outdoors with your baby, toddler, or preschooler while learning how you can use nature to support your child’s development. The morning will include some guided thought work, casual discussions, and plenty of time to implement the ideas and concepts into your nature exploration with your little one. You and your child will be invited to join in campfire building, nature story reading, and nature art creations. This is also a time to build your outdoor-parenting community by connecting with fellow families interested in spending more time in nature.

Created with child ages 0 - 3 in mind, other ages welcome. Classes are held outdoors rain or shine except in cases of extreme or unsafe weather.

November 19th class focus:
Early development - learn and discuss how you can use time nature to foster connection, meaningful communication, fine and gross motor skills, and more.

December 10th class focus:
Risky play, safety - learn and discuss how risky play is beneficial to young children, how to assess risk for your family/child, and safety planning for being outdoors with young children.
January 9th class focus: Focus and attention, independent play - learn and discuss how to become a keen observer of your child, how to help your child engage deeply and meaningfully in their play/exploration, and how to support independent play.
