You heard it here first: One of our most popular exhibits opens to the public beginning Saturday, May 25! The Living Conservatory allows you to immerse yourself in a Central American tropical dry forest without leaving Raleigh. Enjoy a walk among the butterflies, look up to see the sloth — probably snoozing — and search for the ornate wood turtles.

WHAT IS THE LIVING CONSERVATORY?
Immerse yourself in a Central American tropical dry forest filled with living plants and animals. Encounter butterflies, turtles, tarantulas, snakes and even a two-toed sloth. Discover a vanilla orchid, pineapple plant, cashew tree and more. Explore North Carolina's connection to the tropics through migration, shared species and products.
