Special Olympics North Carolina

Special Olympics Wake County partners with the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department. With over 1,600 athletes training and competing year-round in Wake County, our local program is among the largest and most active in North Carolina. We offer training in 15 seasonal sports and host several local school based competitions throughout the year.

Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) offers sports training and competition in 19 Olympic-type sports to nearly 40,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities. Athletes train for a minimum of eight weeks with an average 1-2 practices per week. Sports competition is available for eligible athletes 8 years old and older, and there is no age limit.

Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) offers sports training and competition in 19 Olympic-type sports to children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Individuals eight years old and up can compete and Young Athletes is available for children ages 2-7.
