SUMMARY:Spring Historic Oakwood Neighborhood Walking Tour
LOCATION:Outside the NC Medical Society Building, 222 North Person Street, Raleigh,
 NC, 27601
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:This informative and entertaining spring walking tour is perfect for the en
tire family! And it's a great thing to do with Mom on or around Mother's Da
y weekend!\n\nThe historic Oakwood neighborhood is the oldest neighborhood
in Raleigh at least partially outside of the downtown. On this tour, you wi
ll learn how much of the Oakwood neighborhood was almost destroyed in the 1
970s.\n\nWe will also discuss the main architectural styles in Oakwood and
the stories of the people who built these gorgeous historic homes. In addit
ion, you will see Oakwood's "modern house," which created such a stir in th
e neighborhood in 2013-14 that the story was reported nationwide.\n\nOther
interesting stops include Pullentown, a tiny sub-neighborhood within Oakwoo
d, and a home where a made-for-TV movie was filmed that starred a very famo
us classic actor and actress.\n\nPLEASE NOTE: This walking tour lasts appro
ximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, but may be slightly shorter depending on th
e size and speed of the grouup. We will NOT be entering any of the homes on
the tour; we will be viewing the exteriors only. In addition, there will n
ot be any restroom breaks or stops for food/drinks.\n\nI run two separate t
ours of Oakwood, one in the spring and one in the fall. If you have been on
the fall tour, then this tour will be new to you!\n
