Do you want to involve your whole family in an active, fun and educational activity exploring how food is grown and harvested? Marbles Kids Museum and People-First Tourism partnered to offer an exciting day with exclusive activities at Marbles during the morning and a small-group hands-on farm experience in a nearby farm.
The day journey will begin at Marbles for the Sweet Potato Harvest where families will have a behind the scenes program with Farmer Raymond harvesting sweet potatoes growing on the Marbles campus. Next, families will enjoy sweet potato activities including cooking, printing, play doh and the science of sweet potatoes for the remainder of the morning. Be sure to stop by the Marbles exhibits with farming and gardening play including On the Farm, Seedlings and Sun Sprouts Garden.
Families are encouraged to break by 11:30 for lunch on their own at Marbles café or other nearby restaurants and to make their way to Chickadee Farms to meet Farmer Jennifer there at 1:30. During the 2hr visit with Jennifer, kids and their parents will tour the farm, have demonstrations of sustainable agriculture practices, and will help Jennifer harvest produce.
Farmers Raymond and Jennifer have a passion for sharing their knowledge about growing healthy food and caring for the Earth; and they love involving kids in hands-on activities that are fun and educational.
The ticket includes entry to Marbles for a 9:00 behind the scenes farming experience with Farmer Raymond, and access to other programs and areas of the museum during the rest of the morning; and a farm activity in the afternoon from 1:15pm until 3:30pm. Chickadee Farm is located 30 mins from downtown Raleigh, please plan drive-to time accordingly.
Transportation and lunch are not included. You can grab lunch at the Marbles café, you can eat your packed lunch at the farm or on your drive between the museum and the farm.
