Please click on the button below to sign up for programs at Wilkerson Nature Preserve. You will be taken to a Google Form to complete. You may register for the Younger cohort (4-8 y.o.) that meets at 10:15 am or the Older cohort (9-12 y.o.) that meets at 11:30 am. Registration is not complete until payment has been made. We offer a number of unique programs that have been developed with families in mind. Our programs expand the “natural environment” of home or school to include neighborhood activities that are both fun and therapeutic. We look forward to engaging with you and your child to explore!

Forest Friends
Looking for a way for your child to get outdoors, away from screen time, while reaping all the therapeutic benefits the woods provide?
Locus Family Centered Therapies will be providing this innovative 8-week ecosensory program led by an occupational therapy provider at our N. Raleigh location. Based on research linking nature-based play to overall wellbeing, participating children will focus on natural play opportunities, fine and gross motor skills, social skills, new friendships, and creativity all while enjoying a beautiful wooded setting. Children will discover multiple benefits from being outdoors that will help with day-to-day life in a fun and enriching format!

Seeds & Sprouts
Looking for a fun way to help your child work on School Skills? Locus Family Centered Therapies is excited to provide this unique 8-week program, led by an occupational therapy practitioner. Children will work together on a variety of skills including following directions, fine and gross motor skills, scissor use, pre-writing, social skills, attention, and regulation. Children will get to use vegetables and flowers from the garden to engage in fun interactive activities followed by a garden-themed snack they help prepare. All abilities are welcome!

Kindergarten Readiness
Does your child sometimes have difficulty regulating their emotions and behavior? Do they have specific sensory likes and dislikes that are impacting their day-to-day life? Locus Family Centered Therapies is excited to provide this unique 8-week program led by a licensed occupational therapy provider. Children will work on the sensory skills impacting multiple areas of a child’s life, including self-regulation skills. Participating families will learn key regulation skills while fostering an overall sense of well-being through the use of fun, interactive sensory experiences and activities in the garden. Fruits, vegetables, and flowers from the garden will be a part of each group session both for play and to try as a snack!
Ages 3-5
SK8 S’cool
SK8 S’cool is a new program by Locus that is currently occurring in driveways and on sidewalks across our service area. The pilot program includes the use of a skateboard or scooter board to help children work on motor planning and skills, balance, and other goals from their customized plan. Future plans include an expansion of this program to community sites and small group gatherings.
This program is currently on hold as we develop community-based partnerships. Our program has been developed in collaboration with the founder of Everyday Skate in New Zealand. Check out their video: https://player.vimeo.com/video/266025771
Barn Buddies
Barn Buddies is our hippotherapy and barnyard skills program. Participants work on sensory input and motor planning and skills while seated atop a horse with adult sidewalkers or around the barn and pasture with a creative curriculum that is sure to engage. This program was inactive during the early stages of the pandemic and is being relaunched. It is suitable for children 3+.
