About

About Dr. Emily

As a child psychologist, and former school psychologist, I have spent the last 20 years working with neurodivergent children, along with their parents and teachers, to build an understanding of how a child's developmental skills, relationships, and perception of safety intersect to create the ideal environment for their growth. After spending 5 years as a school psychologist and 13 more as a child psychologist in private practice, in 2023 I decided to no longer take on new clients. If you are a former client and you or your child would like to work with me again, just send me an email to check my availability. For current and former clients, I continue to provide a mix of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and play therapy that is tailored to each child. In 2017, I received a Professional Certification in the DIR/Floortime model through The Profectum Foundation which has greatly enhanced my work with young autistic children. More about me: I received a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006. Wanting to learn more about providing mental health services in public schools, I completed an APA-accredited psychology internship at Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District in Houston, Texas. After completing my internship, I remained in Houston to complete my post-doctoral training in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD where I provided evaluation, therapy, and consultation services in elementary, middle, and high schools. As a Raleigh native, my family returned home in 2010 and I worked for a group practice before opening my solo practice in 2012. I am a Licensed Psychologist and Health Services Provider in NC specializing in therapy and consultation services for neurodivergent children and teens including those diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, anxiety, giftedness, and/or learning disabilities. I am passionate about helping parents connect with their children in order to cultivate loving and supportive interactions that are felt by both parents and child. My background in School Psychology has given me extensive experience conducting psycho-educational evaluations and consulting with teachers and school administrators, which is helpful when supporting families as they navigate school services for their children. In addition to my psychology practice, I provide online educational resources for teachers and parents at Learn with Dr. Emily. When not in the office, I enjoy singing, reading on the porch, long walks with my dog, and traveling with my husband and two sons.
