Priority registration is for members of St. John’s Episcopal Church, current students and their siblings, and children of staff members. The remaining spaces for the general public will be assigned based on a lottery selection.

A nonrefundable registration fee of one month’s tuition is charged when a child is registered for an existing space in the school for the following year. Children are enrolled in their age group based on a birthday on or before August 31st, which conforms to the Wake County Public School Policy. After registration is complete, a waiting list is made for each age class. (The waiting lists are good for the following school year only.) When an opening becomes available, the opening is filled based on a lottery selection.

Tuition is always due one month in advance. The first payment will be due August 1st. Children enrolled in the four year old program must be fully potty trained. Classes take place from 9:30 AM until 12:30 PM (Toddler Class) and 2, 3 & 4 year old classes take place 9:15 AM until 1 PM.  Questions concerning enrollment procedures should be directed to the preschool office.

Our Philosophy

St. John’s Preschool is a ministry of St. John’s Episcopal Church for families in the Wake Forest area. It is a place where children are loved and nurtured in a safe, secure environment. Children learn to cooperate, respect others, respect differences, grow spiritually, and develop confidence in their abilities. We strive to provide opportunities for children to explore, to be creative, and to be good stewards of all that God has given us. We welcome children of all races and faiths and recognize and respect differences in religious preferences.

Curriculum

We believe that effective early childhood education is determined by an understanding of children’s ages and developmental needs, their culture, their abilities and their natural curiosity about themselves and their environment. By being responsive to the changing needs of the children and their interests, our staff offers a child-centered program which includes teacher-directed and child-initiated activities. We use many “hands-on” learning experiences which stimulate all areas of development: cognitive, language, fine motor, gross motor, social-emotional, and spiritual growth.

The curriculum at St. John’s is play-based and integrates music, art, drama, and storytelling. For the younger children we incorporate learning experiences during routine care as well as provide a stimulating environment with age-appropriate toys and activities. For older preschoolers we organize activities around appropriate themes, units, or projects. Our goal ultimately is to prepare them for Kindergarten.
