North Carolina State Capitol

A National Historic Landmark, the N.C. State Capitol is one of the finest and best-preserved examples of the Greek Revival style of architecture in the United States. The Capitol features a domed rotunda and beautiful state Senate and House chambers, meticulously restored to their 1840 appearance. Until 1888, its granite walls housed all of state government and the NC General Assembly met here until 1961.
The Capitol is open to visitors for self-guided tours Monday - Saturday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Public tours take place on Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. (call 919-733-4994 to confirm) Guided tours for groups of 10 or more may be arranged by calling Capital Area Visitor Services at 919-807-7950 or toll-free 866-724-8687 or visiting www.nccapvisit.org
