We are excited to offer high school students TWO different programs this coming summer. Our traditional programs which go up to 10th grade, and a new program geared to help answer the question – what does a STEM career look like. Using Materials Engineering as an example, The goal is to answer the question what do Materials Engineers do? What options are there? What do advanced degrees do for your career? What classes do I have to take, etc. To answer those questions, we will do a different field trip and coordinated project each day. On Monday we will go to NCSU and visit the academic department, find out about the curriculum, meet some of the faculty, tour research labs and then carry out a project while on campus. The next four days will follow the same plan visiting different local companies and talking to the professionals in each field to find out what they actually do in their careers. Once you have a STEM degree in a particular field, there are many options of actual work. The goal of this program is to shed light on what those options actually look like.
